The sausages should not be consumed during pregnancy. Neither meat or undercooked fish. Raw vegetables should be washed carefully.

Failure to follow these tips, you may receive a food-borne disease risk of death for children: listeriosis, caused by a bacteria found in food. Another disease that should be prevented, although it is very rare, is toxoplasmosis.

Toxoplasma is a parasite found in raw meat, the vegetables are not washed, and especially in cats. It is dangerous for pregnant women living with these animals.

To avoid toxoplasmosis, besides not eating raw meat or sausage is essential always wash hands thoroughly when handling raw meat, and carefully wash fruits and vegetables. Of course, consumption of alcohol for pregnant women is prohibited.

4. Vitamin supplements, under medical supervision

Vitamins are essential for the smooth functioning of the body because they participate in the formation of hormones and cells. A pregnant woman may be recommended vitamin supplements to prevent nutritional deficiencies.

This is done under medical supervision, because the group of fat-soluble vitamins (A, E, D and K) accumulate in the body in case of overdose, and can be toxic to the fetus. Supplements of vitamin A, in particular, not advised for pregnant women because if you take too much may be a risk of birth defects.

2. Keys to a varied diet

Half of the protein intake should come from meat, fish and eggs. The main source of energy to carry out daily activities are complex carbohydrates (the body absorbs glucose, a sugar-containing gradually).

The complex carbohydrates are rice, pulses, potatoes, fruits and some fortified cereals.

Do not abuse the simple carbohydrates, found in table sugar, honey, candy or bakery products, because they can alter the metabolism of glucose. By eating simple carbohydrates, sugar goes directly into the blood, as in pregnancy there is some resistance to insulin (the hormone responsible for lowering blood sugar levels), the sugar causes the fetus increases in size.

A balanced nutrition during pregnancy is a big help in preventing abortions, premature deliveries or decrease your weight and your size.

1. What guidelines should be followed?

A pregnant woman the first thing that tells you is that you have a complete analysis to find out the status of your defenses, your blood group and Rh, and detect any possible disorder or pathology.

In general, nutrition during pregnancy is the same as that of any healthy woman, but with some care.

We must pay close attention to the power of multiparous women, those who have already had more than an embarrassment, especially when there has been a short period between them.

In these cases, the mother’s possible reserves have been depleted and your body can suffer with anemia or softener.

It has to follow a varied and balanced diet. However, pregnancy has to increase intake of foods rich in iron and folic acid, basically. Iron is found in soybeans, lentils, spinach, green beans and peas. Iron is necessary for the fetus to take oxygen.
