Difficult Babies Get Less Care

Babies with difficult temperaments receive less attention in the nursery and warmth of the teachers than the kids easy. This is serious because babies with more negative emotions properly sensitive to the quality of care than children who are a little easier.

This suggests orthopedagoge Esther Albers finds this month at the Radboud University in Nijmegen on a PhD study on the “challenges in caring for very young children. Albers has 53 babies in groups of 38 different nurseries in the region of Arnhem – Nijmegen observed when she was three, six and nine months old and another around their first birthday. The teacher is not optimistic about the quality of care in day nurseries in general.

Albers studied where famous scientists such as Louis Tavecchio, professor of child and Marianne Frederiksen-Walraven, professor of developmental psychology, advocating for years. Both professors are very concerned about the quality of childcare in the Netherlands and the effect of care on the later development of the child. (more…)
