Part of child deaths that occur in the world, especially in underdeveloped countries could be avoided if moms take nutritional supplements, and shows a study by a group of experts from the University of Mataram (Indonesia). The study concludes that not enough to provide mothers-iron and folic acid supplementation is necessary to supplement these with various vitamins and minerals.
Logically, the diet that is followed in these countries does not provide the necessary elements to allow a proper development of future children, the lack of means forced to eat little and little nutritional load.
The study involved data from 31,290 pregnant women were divided into two groups, firstly, a first group to which she was given iron and folic acid addition to diet that followed. The second group received a nutritional supplement which include, besides the elements of the first group, various vitamins, A, B1, B2, B6, B12, D, E and various minerals like zinc and selenium, among others.
The results are very noticeable, in the second group showed a reduction of up to 18% chance that the babies died during the first 90 days compared with the first group. In addition, women in this group who suffered anemia or malnutrition, managed to reduce by 38% the chances that the baby died within 90 days of life. Spontaneous abortions also fell, as did the risk of future low birthweight babies were born.
Course is a study that supports what was already known, it is necessary to enjoy an adequate diet during pregnancy to allow future baby gets all the elements necessary for its development. To significantly reduce child mortality will require combining several factors, nutrition, hygiene, sanitation facilities, etc. Unfortunately are factors that fail to put together and there is always some kind of deficiency.
It will be difficult to fulfill the Millennium Goals, especially now, with the rise of biofuel, one of the most used food to alleviate hunger in the Third World, cereals, wildly increased cost and no longer has reserves world grain of living many underdeveloped countries. Studies are useless and after getting the data, do not take appropriate measures to alleviate the problem.
